Summer Associate Program
Many considerations play into the decision of which law firm to join for the summer, including the firm's culture and office environment, the variety of work assignments and the opportunities for professional and personal growth. Greensfelder’s Summer Associate Program is an opportunity to gain experience, become a part of the team and get a glimpse of what being an associate looks like.
Greensfelder is committed to conducting a high-quality Summer Associate Program. The challenging assignments are geared toward helping participants experience the range of our firm’s practice.
Overview
- Summer associates who have completed their second year of law school are assigned to specific practice groups and receive work assignments from attorneys in their groups.
- Summer associates who have completed their first year are typically part of our “general pool.” They will receive work from a variety of practice groups and have the opportunity to explore areas of the law that appeal to them.
Our summer associates are considered more than just students – they become involved in the daily fabric of our practice. In addition to delivering accurate and concise research memoranda, we believe our summer associates should learn to address the practical problems our clients face. Typically, our summer associates get the opportunity to interact with clients, under the guidance of our experienced attorneys. They also attend meetings, depositions, hearings and closings with the attorneys they work with. Ultimately, summer associates have an accurate and thorough picture of what it is like to practice law as an associate at Greensfelder.
Integration
Summer associates receive the opportunity to participate in weekly meetings with senior officers of the firm, covering client relationships, marketing and Greensfelder's history and goals, as well as a brief overview of each of the firm’s practice groups.
Throughout the summer, Greensfelder provides opportunities to connect with the firm. Our social events are designed to provide a taste of life in our metropolitan area, including cheering the Cardinals on to victory at Busch Stadium, networking at a private evening in the St. Louis Zoo, and joining the firm's officers for a dinner at one of the city's renowned establishments. We want our summer associates to create a network of resources within the firm, and the social events allow them to meet attorneys who might not be a part of their regular assignments.
Mentor Program
Each of our summer associates is paired with an associate mentor and a member of the Recruiting Committee to ensure that someone is always available to provide advice, act as a sounding board and guide progress throughout the summer.
Professional Development
We strive to provide opportunities for meaningful feedback both informally, through the comments and evaluation of the assigning attorney as projects are completed, and formally, through two scheduled reviews. Our open-door policy encourages informal interaction between summer associates and the attorneys with whom they work. Summer associates regularly work with practice group managers and other senior-level attorneys within the firm, creating further opportunities for learning and growth.
