John Bruegger represents clients in asbestos litigation throughout the U.S., handling high-value premises and product liability cases in state and federal courts. He is experienced in toxic tort, environmental, energy, insurance and other commercial litigation.

John has experience in mass torts, class actions, and complex, multi-district and whistleblower litigation, and he has successfully represented numerous Fortune 500 companies. He also has represented small and large businesses as plaintiffs and defendants in business tort, class action and contract cases.

Before joining Greensfelder, John was a senior associate at a commercial litigation firm, where he acted as national trial counsel and local counsel for businesses in numerous industries. He also previously was the trial team leader for the pharmaceutical litigation department at an Illinois mass tort and complex litigation firm.  

In addition to his law degree, John has completed advanced legal studies, including a master of laws program in taxation and a doctoral research program that culminated in his dissertation on “Freedom and the Law.”

Representative Matters

  • Successful removal of state action to federal court, then successful motion to dismiss product liability case based on economic loss doctrine. Dannix Painting LLC The Sherwin Williams Company, 2012 WL 6013217  (E.D.Mo. 2012)
  • Successful outcome on a motion for summary judgment in the city of St. Louis, Missouri, on behalf of a national asbestos client. Poffenbaugh v. The Sherwin-Williams Company, et al., Case No. 1122-CC10659 (2012)
  • Successfully briefed and argued a motion to transfer for improper venue of a multimillion-dollar class action lawsuit brought in federal court against a financial services client. Kelly v. Whitehaven Settlement Funding, LLC, 2010 WL 746983 (S.D.Il. 2010)
  • FINRA securities arbitration where the claimant sought an award of $750,000 plus attorneys’ fees and costs. An arbitration panel entered a finding of no liability for a banking client and award of attorneys’ fees and costs to the client. Fredericks v. Bank of Edwardsville, UVest (FINRA 10-01385) (2011)
