Scott Cruz Appointed to Serve on Illinois Labor Advisory Board
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has appointed Greensfelder Officer Scott Cruz to the state’s Labor Advisory Board, which advises on labor policy and the Illinois Department of Labor’s enforcement of laws and statutes. Cruz is a labor and employment attorney who represents both public and private sector employers and will bring key perspectives from employers to the board.
Cruz is one of seven new members whose appointment to the Labor Advisory Board the governor announced January 30, 2023, pending Illinois Senate confirmation.
“This is an important time for the work of this board, with recent changes in the law including amendments to the Illinois One Day Rest in Seven Act and the recently passed Paid Sick Leave for All Workers Act,” Cruz said. “I look forward to having a voice in helping shape these and other policies that will have significant impacts on employers and employees statewide.”
Cruz received a bachelor of arts from Marquette University and his law degree from the University of Illinois. He is active in numerous chambers of commerce throughout the state, helping to provide education to their members on changes in the law that affect employers of all sizes. He also is active in trade organizations statewide including the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association and the Illinois Bankers Association, where shares his knowledge of updates in labor and employment law regularly with other members. He recently was named to the Crain's Chicago Business 2022 list of Notable Gen X Leaders in Accounting, Consulting and Law.
Cruz’s practice includes representing employers in claims brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, retaliatory discharge, breach of contract, labor arbitration and class actions. He handles all aspects of state and federal law relating to minimum wages, overtime, exemptions, and wage payment issues, and provides management and employee training on workplace legal issues.
