Greensfelder partners with Mound City Bar Foundation’s career pipeline program for Black law students
Greensfelder is pleased to announce its support for the Mound City Bar Foundation’s new program supporting the development of a strong pipeline of Black law students at St. Louis law schools.
The Equity Scholars Program will aim to promote diversity in the legal profession and social equity in the community, as well as attract high-quality law school students. The program is tied to the Mound City 100th anniversary campaign, which includes among its key initiatives helping to increase the number of lawyers of color at law firms. The public phase of its centennial Campaign for the Future officially kicked off at a celebration event March 30, 2022, in St. Louis. Mound City Bar Association is the oldest African-American bar association west of the Mississippi River.
Mound City joined with Washington University and St. Louis University in creating the Equity Scholars Program, which is intended to help “professionalize and grow a systematic and innovative pipeline to identify, recruit and place more Black lawyers in successful careers.” The universities’ law schools will identify candidates based on their academic achievement, connections to the St. Louis community, commitment to diversity, financial need, and interest in personal development. The Mound City Bar Foundation will select finalists to receive significant financial aid, mentorship, career development and other support services.
Greensfelder attorneys have been members and supporters of the Mound City Bar Association and the Mound City Bar Foundation for many years. As a platinum supporter of the Equity Scholars Program over the next three years, the firm will support the program not only financially but also by helping to shape mentorship and professional development opportunities.
Greensfelder’s support for the Equity Scholars Program continues its ongoing work to prioritize pipeline initiatives that expose students of color to opportunities in the legal profession. The firm participates regularly in high school career programs for diverse students and also supports Black Law Students Association events, along with numerous other organizations that promote those goals. The firm also provides high school internship opportunities through the Boys & Girls Clubs’ St. Louis Internship Program.
