We work closely with employers from a wide variety of industries to help develop common sense and reliable procedures that ensure compliance with the I-9 regulations. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA) established the I-9 process whereby all U.S. employers are required to work with their new hires to provide documentation that the employees are eligible to work in the United States. We have conducted internal I-9 audits of clients to identify problem areas and work with them to develop solutions to problems that are found. We have also worked closely with companies that have been approached by the federal government in connection with an I-9 audit or investigation. In the course of our work with these clients, the Immigration Practice Group has developed important contacts within U.S. Departments of Labor and Justice, the agencies with jurisdiction over the I-9 process and enforcement of the provisions of IRCA.
