Since its inception in 1978, the Health Care Practice Group has developed experience in all facets of the law regulating and affecting the health care industry. This broad knowledge base and depth of experience has enabled the Group to effectively serve clients. Our Group covers the full spectrum of the health care delivery system. We act as general or specialty counsel for providers including health care systems, hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health agencies, ambulatory care facilities, physician groups, provider networks (i.e., IPAs, PHOs, etc.), self-funded benefit plans, diagnostic testing facilities, suppliers, pharmacy benefit managers and behavioral health providers. Our representation of our clients is always guided by the philosophy that when our job is done our clients must live with and implement the structures we create, arrangements we develop, and the documents we draft.
Servicing clients representing different points on the health care continuum gives us a comprehensive understanding of how the health care delivery system works. This understanding enables us to cut through the regulatory complexity and sift through competing interests to develop realistic solutions to the challenges our clients face. Our attorneys provide guidance regarding corporate compliance, e-health, fraud and abuse, health care mergers and acquisitions and other business transactions, HIPAA, licensing and regulatory compliance, long term care, managed care, medical staff and professional rights, physician practices, reimbursement, tax-exempt issues, and operational issues faced by our health care clients.
Members of our Group have first-hand knowledge of the operations of hospitals, physician practices, ancillary service providers and other health care providers. We work closely with our clients to understand not only their strategic and operational goals, but also the marketplace realities and trends which help for the goals. This experience allows us to develop structures, and provide advice and solutions to legal and business problems that will position our clients for success.
Our attorneys maintain a balance of the skills of a general counsel and outside counsel with depth of specific health care experience. The attorneys in our Practice Group have varied backgrounds including former nurses, a social worker, a managed care professional, and a health care executive. Our attorneys are members of, and in many cases held various leadership positions in, a variety of legal and industry groups, including the American Health Lawyers Association, the Missouri Society of Health Care Attorneys, the American Bar Association Health Law Section, the Healthcare Roundtable for Corporate Counsel, the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Missouri Healthcare Executive Group.
